Potential Health Risks Associated with Residing Near a Wood Treatment Facility
Our Challenge
- We were retained to assess the potential health risks associated with alleged exposure to wood treating compounds including creosote and pentachlorophenol for residents living in close proximity to a wood treatment facility
Our Approach
- ChemRisk evaluated available site-related and offsite media, including soil, groundwater, attic dust, and surface water with measured concentrations of potentially hazardous chemicals.
- Identified potential constituents of concern and exposure pathways based on available data, literature review, and background research.
- Performed human health risk assessment for potential scenarios where a resident may come into contact with wood treating compounds.
Our Findings
- In accordance with U.S. EPA and LDEQ guidelines, the onsite and offsite media did not present unacceptable heath risks for the various exposure pathways.
