Our Challenge
- From 1984-1987, ChemRisk® staff were involved in direct research evaluating the possible health risks associated with exposure to 2,3,7,8-TCDD (dioxin) in soil.
Our Approach
- We conducted exposure assessments and low-dose analyses regarding:
- Dermal and oral bioavailability
- Ingestion rates of soil by children
- Vapor pressure measurements of dioxin
- Soil erosion wind models
- Low dose model sensitivity analyses
- And conducted a risk assessment
Our Findings
- We developed novel soil ingestion and risk assessment methodologies that were used in decision-making regarding dozens of sites contaminated with dioxin in the 1980s and 1990s.
- This work resulted in 8 peer-reviewed publications.
