Chemical Company – Benzene

ChemRisk evaluated historical benzene exposures at a chemical company from 1962 through 1999.

This chemical manufacturing facility produced products and chemicals such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyallomer, low molecular weight waxes and adhesives, and various alcohols and aldehydes from raw materials.

Benzene was a byproduct of certain chemical processes at this facility; therefore industrial hygiene samples were collected at this facility dating back to 1962, with extensive personal benzene exposure monitoring beginning in the mid 1970s.

Using their data set of over 3,500 industrial hygiene samples, ChemRisk conducted an exposure reconstruction with quantitative estimates of benzene exposure by division, department, and job title for all process areas.

ChemRisk also analyzed how exposures changed as a result of company process modifications and as a result of historical Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) changes.
