Health Effects of Nutritional Supplements Containing AAS
Our Challenge
- We were retained to assess alleged severe adverse health effects resulting from the use of dietary supplements marketed for bodybuilding.
Our Approach
- We performed a detailed literature review on the health effects of synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS).
- We retained a Drug Enforcement Agency-certified laboratory to analyze the chemical composition of the supplements.
Our Findings
- Misused AAS can create problems with the normal functioning of the liver and kidneys, leading to elevated liver enzymes, obstructive jaundice and renal failure.
