Benzene in Beverages
Our Challenge
The FDA found that benzene can form in beverages that contain Vitamin C and certain preservatives.
We were retained to assess the potential health risks posed by the benzene.
Our Approach
We tested more than 25 beverage samples from different containers to determine benzene concentrations
Determined health risks based on:
benzene concentrations
estimated ingestion rates
Various potency estimates for Benzene
Our Findings
Based on standards set by the U.S. EPA, the benzene concentrations measured in the studied beverages were not expected to pose an unacceptable health risk to consumers.
